1st inversion blindfolder

I am practicing my triads in different inversions, and I decided to see if I could hear and feel my way around the neck to find my 1inversion triads blindfolded!

Scales, Riffs and Embellishments

Part of my practice is to play fast, or to push myself. Others is to say intervals while playing a scale, then just playing a riff is fun too!

Folk Etudes

Using rhythm, learning how to read, playing with the open strings, and just a general feel for reading and playing folky stuff. 3:40 long.

My 2 audition songs

Here's me playing Misty and Sunny Afternoon. I'm playing as if I'm in front of 3 experienced musicians, and one of them is my lecturer (who happens to be the Music Director.  October 12, 2024

Eiks!

Chat GPT - useful for analysing a song?

I’m taking a university course called Musicianship and Harmony. We are taught music theory way beyond my pay grade… but I’m there stretching my brain and can hear the synapsis clash with each other  :)

This link to my video is below.  I have documented my journey into rabbit holes. Thinking that I was smart and using ChatGPT to help me solve some issues with analysing a 4 part harmony.. I wanted to let people know that it’s okay to use their brain and avoid rabbit holes!

You don’t need to read music or understand too much theory to watch… it’s more to do with the crossroads, and the breadcrumbs that I found along the way. It’s entertaining but a lot of work for something that should have taken a couple of hours!

So What

Jazz! Modal - 2 chords
How hard can it be?

I played this song in 2021 for part of my community jazz course. I was green and didn't really know how to play it.

Jim Stinnett has 2 videos and I watched them on repeat, on slow & repeat...

Lean on Me and scale practice

Lean on Me by Billy Withers is in C major, and it gives you a good reason to learn your scales as this is what the song does.

The video is Lean on Me and how to practice my G scale- up the neck, down the neck, and scale degrees.

Learning simple songs by ear

Little snippets of how I started to learn songs by ear.
There is a lot of videos that got cut because it took me so long to figure out. It's a recipe that is good for ear training, but it's so very frustrating!

There's a gap between the top video and the ones on the bottom because I was concentrating on the 20 week Cohort

Let's Get it Started
by The Black Peas

What a great groove that uses roots and fifths. It's interesting to learn this song my ear. You start to ear octave, and fifths (or you should at this stage, for me)). I can't get this song out of my head!

Sharing my learning with the Circle of Fifths

Sometimes it takes a little while to figure out music, and this is one of those moments!

Off Beats using Led Leppelin's rhythm

Listening to the off beat, using a track who's music has off-beats (Led Zeppelin), then going to the pentatonic box, and seeing how many different types of basslines that I can come up with.

White RabbiT

Let's start this year with a performance. January 2 2024! We were amongst friends and it was fun to have practiced this, around 3, 4 times and get it out there! It's still a bit rough, but we'll perfect it next time!
